Your 50s can be one of the busiest times of your life, you are juggling your career, and you may also have kids and older parents who need caring. BUT! A healthy lifestyle should be a lifelong pursuit, after age 50, it’s even more critical to maintain healthy habits to keep you strong and active longer.
Do Not Skip Routine Screenings
I am sure that everyone's heard that before. A yearly physical is the easiest healthy habit to form because you only have to do it once a year. Routine screenings are essential for both men & women, especially as they pass the 50-year mark.
Do Aerobic Exercises
The other thing to think about when we try to stay fit after 50 is getting the proper amount of aerobic activity. The national guidelines are 150 minutes, which sounds like a whole lot per week, but it's only 2.5 hours per week. And if you think about a daily average, that's minimum of 22 minutes of aerobic exercise daily. Go jogging, walk the dog, do gardening, play sports, cycle or swim, it all counts, by all means try new things!
But keep a record of that because excessive aerobic exercises can increase the production of the Cortisol hormone - it's a stress-causing hormone.
Use Your Muscles To Move Weight - Resistance Training
As people get older, it's really important to take care of the muscles that move the weight. The more we pick things up, the stronger our muscles get. It's vital for folks after they turn 50 to do some resistance training.
Make sure to seek guidance from a gym instructor before beginning a new exercise routine. To get the best and ideal exercises for your overall routine, schedule it in your calendar with a trainer or ask for a comprehensive programme to follow.
